Immigration Minister opens to raise permanent residency cap
Canada’s immigration minister says he is not refusing to expand a new program that would provide permanent residency to 90,000 temporary foreign workers and international student graduates as part of the country’s annual immigration target.
“I am open to discussing the current cap again or not,” Marco Mendicino said in an interview on Wednesday.
He made his remarks on the first day after giving a speech on modernizing immigration. He said in a speech to the Canadian club that more than 50,000 people have expressed interest in the spaces since applications began last Thursday.
