Express Entry System

Express Entry is a application process for skilled immigrants who want to settle in Canada permanently through certain economic immigration programs.

  • It is used to manage applications for skilled and qualified workers.

  • It is designed to facilitate the immigration of skilled workers to Canada who are most likely to succeed economically.

  • The processing times is approximately 6 months for most applications.

There are 4 basic steps

  1. Find out if you’re eligible.

  2. Get your documents ready

  3. Submit your profile

  4. Receive an invitation and apply for permanent residence

The following federal economic immigration programs fall under the Express Entry System

  • Federal Skilled Worker Class (previously known as – The Federal Skilled Worker Program)

  • Federal Skilled Trades Class (previously known as The Federal Skilled Trades Program)

  • Canadian Experience Class

  • Provincial Nominee Programs. Provinces and territories can recruit candidates from the Express Entry Pool through their Provincial Nominee Programs to meet their local labor market needs.

FEDERAL SKILLS WORKERS CLASS

 

 The Minimum Eligibility Criteria

  • 1 year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the past 10 years in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A or B.

  • English or French language ability equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in English or French in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

  • Educational credential - degree, diploma, or certificate with the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.

Pre-requisites to applying

To be able to apply under the Federal Skill Worker Class program (FSWP) you must meet the minimum requirements and obtain 67 points from a score of 100 points.

Funds

If you are invited to apply you must prove you have the requisite amount of settlement funds and prove you can established themselves in Canada.

Medical Exams

As soon as you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) you must complete your medical examination.

Application Fees in Canadian dollars (CAD)

  • Principal applicant ($550 processing fee + $500 right of permanent residence fee) = $1,050

  • Spouse or common-law partner ($550 processing fee + $500 right of permanent residence fee) = $1,050

  • Dependant child of the principal applicant who is under 22 years = $150 per child

FEDERAL TRADES CLASS

 

THE MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • have 2 years of full-time work experience (or its part-time equivalent) in a skilled trade within the period of 5 years before you apply.

  • know English, CLB level 5 for speaking and listening, CLB level 4 for reading and writing.

  • have an offer of full-time employment for the period of at least one year OR a certificate of qualification in your skilled trade that was issued by a Canadian province, federal or territorial authority.

  • be able to demonstrate your skills and experience as may be needed by your skilled trade.

NOC GROUPS OF ELIGIBLE SKILLED TRADES

  • Industrial, electrical and construction workers (major group 72)

  • maintenance and equipment operation workers (major group 73)

  • supervisors and technical workers in natural resources, agriculture and related production(major group 82)

  • processing, manufacturing and utility supervisors and central control operators(major group 92)

  • chefs and cooks( minor group 632)

  • butchers and bakers(minor group 633)

education

You don’t have to meet any requirements in terms of education; however, completing an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) would enable you to increase your rank in the Express Entry pool.

Proof of funds

You must show that you have enough money for you and your family to settle in Canada, unless you are currently able to legally work in Canada and have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada.

CANADA EXPERIENCE CLASS

 

THE MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Language proficiency

  • have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply. The work experience must be:

  • full-time or an equal amount in part-time

  • have gained your work experience by working in Canada legally

Education

You don’t have to meet any requirements in terms of education; however, completing a Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) would enable you to increase your rank in the Express Entry pool.

Language

You must meet the minimum language (listening, reading, writing, speaking) level of

  • Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs or

  • Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for NOC B
