Canada’s three-year target from 2019 to 2021 will welcome more than one million new immigrants through its immigration programs. We at JM Immigration seek to make the immigration process simple for our client’s by providing guidance and assistance every step of the way.
More than half of the new immigrants will arrive through the Express Entry Program and various Provincial Nominee Programs. The family reunification as well as the refugee immigration programs will account for 40 per cent of the immigration target.

IMMIGRATION PROGRAMS
Express Entry
Immigrate as a skilled worker. Express Entry is an online immigration application system. It allows you to submit a profile and be considered as a skilled immigrant. If you have a high ranking you are invited to apply for permanent residence. Express Entry system consists of three programs:
1. Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW)
2. Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST)
3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Family Sponsorship
Sponsor your relatives, including your spouse, partner, children, parents, grandparents, and others to immigrate. If you are a Canadian permanent resident or citizen with a family member who wants to immigrate to Canada, you may be able to help them become a permanent resident. Family reunification is one of the pillars of the Canadian immigration system.
Provincial Nominees
Immigrate by being nominated by a Canadian province or territory. Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories.
The Provincial Nominee Programs are designed to address the special needs of the province. The selection criteria for each PNP are centered on the province’s economic situations and the applicant’s ability to settle, work and contribute to the province. Qualified individuals are granted a Nomination Certificate to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence.
Quebec-Selected Skilled Workers
Immigrate as a skilled worker in the province of Quebec. Applicants must apply to the Quebec government for a certificate de sélection du Québec (CSQ). After you have been selected by Quebec and obtained a CSQ, you must submit a separate application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence. An IRCC officer will then assess your application based on Canadian immigration rules. You will need to pass medical, security and criminality checks.
Atlantic Immigration Pilot
Immigrate by graduating from a school or working in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland and Labrador. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot program permits designated employers from the Atlantic provinces to hire foreign nationals without obtaining a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Candidates through all three Atlantic Immigration Pilot programs require a Settlement Plan after receiving an offer of employment. The Settlement Plan is designed to help them settle in Canada by highlighting resources specific to them and their family's needs.
Caregivers
Immigrate by providing care for children, the elderly or those with medical needs, or work as a live-in caregiver. As a live-in caregiver, you can apply for an open work permit when you apply for permanent residence under the Live-in Caregiver Class. You must be at least 21 years or older and have a high school diploma.
Entrepreneur Programs
Immigrate by starting a business and creating jobs. As a qualified Entrepreneur, you and your family can obtain Canada Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visas under the Federal Program (applicants intending to reside anywhere in Canada, except Quebec). The Entrepreneur Program requires you to establish or acquire a percentage of equity (at least 33.33%) in a qualifying Canadian business that you must actively manage. Your business must create at least one new job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Self-Employed
Immigrate as a self-employed person in cultural or athletic activities. You need to provide proof of self-employment and your intention to be self-employed once you immigrate to Canada.
Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
It’s designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in 1 of the participating communities. This pilot opened in 2019.
This pilot is community-driven, meaning the communities will:
assess prospective candidates who
o best fit the economic needs of the community
o have a genuine employment opportunity that meets their community requirements
o have the intention of staying in the community
recommend candidates for permanent residence to IRCC for a final decision
connect newcomers with settlement services and mentoring opportunities with established members of the community
Agri-Food Immigration Pilot
The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot will help address the labour needs of the Canadian agri-food sector, particularly in meat processing and mushroom production.
The pilot will seek to attract experienced, non-seasonal workers who can economically establish in Canada, and who support the ongoing labour needs of the agri-food sector.
In particular, the pilot will focus on attracting retail butchers, industrial butchers, food processing labourers, harvesting labourers, general farm workers, and farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers.
Refugees
Resettle in Canada as a refugee
To come to Canada as a refugee, you must be referred. The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), a designated referral organization, or a private sponsorship group can refer you. You cannot apply directly as a refugee.
Sponsor a refugee
Through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, you may be able to help sponsor refugees from abroad who qualify to come to Canada. Your role as a sponsor is to support the refugees for the length of the sponsorship. This includes help for housing, clothing and food, as well as social and emotional support.
